Stoneware clay is very strong. It is fully vitrified (the surface is made glassy and non-porous) which gives it strength, durability and chip resistance. Care for your stoneware with love and it will go a long way.
All the dinnerware is dishwasher proof but we recommend hand washing. Never use steel wool, caustic liquids and abrasive cleansers to clean your stoneware. Though it is hard and durable, it can still be susceptible to scratching and other damage without care.
Over time, some glazes (both handmade and commercial) may form a network of hairline cracks in their surface which is especially revealed by tea and coffee staining. If you find them to be unsightly, simply put a teaspoon of bleach in your cup and fill it with water. Thoroughly rinse out the bleach before you use it. This will remove the staining but not the cracks.
If you are stacking the stoneware for storage, place a sheet of white paper, tissue or cloth between each product to avoid any scratches.
If possible, you should store the stoneware items upside down. This will keep it from wear and tear over time.
All stoneware can crack if exposed to sudden changes in temperature, no matter how strong it is, so please don’t take items from the freezer and put them straight into the microwave.
Please do not expose them to direct heat sources like stoves or grill.
